In late November 2024, representatives of TMAS from 8 countries around the world including members of IMHA and the International Maritime Health Foundation and from a combination of public and private providers met to discuss the training of TMAS doctors. The aim of the workshop was to review current practice and produce a consensus statement of best practice for the initial training of doctors starting a post in TMAS, and we hope to publish this in due course. Discussions also included the ongoing training of doctors delivering medical advice to seafarers and how this fits into a quality assurance framework. We hope this will be the start of ongoing work to ensure best practice in this field internationally and look forward to working further with all participants. Many thanks to Radio Medical Denmark for hosting the event and to the ITF Seafarers Trust for sponsorship.
