WHY BECOME AN IMHA MEMBER
IMHA is the first, the largest and most important association of medical professionals active in Maritime Medicine.
Membership enable all medical professionals working with seafarers to participate in the debate and the exchange of information about the health of seafarers, the challenges faced and possible solutions.
In many countries Maritime Medicine is a small speciality with only a few seafarers as patients and little recognition from governing bodies. Nevertheless the seafarers deserve the best support possible to maintain their good health onboard ships, far from their family and far away from medical care. And you as medical professionals deserve the support of colleagues within the same speciality.
IMHA brings your efforts from a local level to an international level, as IMHA has consultative status at the United Nations and works closely with most of the important industrial organisations.
IMHA is your voice to improve the health of seafarers, to partner with others, to advocate for more attention to the health and safety of seafarers.
- IMHA creates a forum where you can learn but also have direct input in the ongoing debates in maritime medicine.
- IMHA works in a scientific way, to support seafarers’ health.
- IMHA advocates for seafarers and their medical support.
WHO CAN BECOME MEMBER OF IMHA
Any professional who works with or for seafarers is welcome to become a member
You may be a medical or other health care practitioner, an occupational physician, a regulator, a radio medical advisor, a teacher in maritime training or work onboard vessels, in ports or in repatriation services etc.
IMHA needs you as a member – the more members we have the more impact we can make and the more exchange and debate we create.
